'Morning' Stained Glass Bookend

$225.00

The clouds of morning are lit as night ascends its stairway and leaves through its iridescent, opaque door.

This piece and its companion, ‘Evening’, were both inspired by The New Pornographers’ song “Go Places”, as well as a life-long love of cloud formations and the mythologies of night and day. There was something especially appealing about making these pieces into bookends - I always like to make useful things, and in so many stories about the gods of night and day they are unable to be with one another except at the moments of dawn and dusk. In each piece both day and night are represented at one of these transitional times when they meet: thus the bookends need not be kept as a pair in order for day and night to keep their meeting.

‘Morning’ has 25 individually cut pieces of stained glass from Youghiogheny Glass and Bullseye Glass, set in a stained and sealed red oak frame. The stained glass panel has been finished with a wax polish to help it keep its shine and prevent oxidation. An LED strip has been set into the frame behind the glass and can be plugged in to illuminate the stained glass - the LED is permanently attached to the frame, but the plug can be easily swapped for a longer or shorter cord if needed (a 6’ cord comes with the bookend).

This is a one-of-a-kind piece - I rarely repeat patterns, and when I do I tend not to repeat colors. While Morning and Evening might be made again with different materials, this is the only time these particular versions will be made or sold.
